In any organization involved in international trade many departments and decisions impact the costs, timeliness and quality of service of logistics. Typically, purchase, manufacturing planning and sales or commercial departments have important role. Usually, the concerned finance and operations functions too have a significant influence on logistics performance and costs. Thus executives in all these areas should have a good perspective on overall logistics processes, elements of the systems and relevant terms.

This program caters to this need and has organized a team of experienced logistics professionals to take participants through –

Definition, restrictions, basic procedures, different agencies involved and their roles – DGFT, customs, excise, other revenue authorities, clearing and forwarding, professional valuers, quantity surveyors, third party inspections, etc.
 

Basic procedures and rules for imports and exports

Typical documentary requirements of imports - procedure of import customs clearance – special cases of imports – Sample B/E and associated documentation – HSN and tariff – customs tariff structure – Typical documentary requirements of exports – procedure of export customs clearance – special cases of re-export, samples, etc. sample Shipping Bill and associated documentation - different types of concessions/ benefits and schemes associated with them - dispute resolution mechanism – Issues of valuation – identification of goods – mismatched documents - typical disputes and precautions to avoid them
 

Ocean freight

The vessel and associated trade terms – different types of vessels and cargos – importance of loading and unloading - different types of service providers and services – the nature of contract - factors affecting freight prices - Bill of Lading and its importance – consolidation of cargo, advantages and disadvantages - the hubs and transshipments – special cases like hazardous cargo
 

Port procedures

Port procedures and charges – different facilities of cargo handling – port authorities and other agencies - issues of concern in Indian ports – private ports

Modern aircraft and cargo space – airport procedures - how the cargo is loaded and secured – factors affecting freight prices - Airway Bill - consolidation of cargo – the hubs and transshipments – Hazardous cargo – on-board couriers

Multimodal nature of transnational movement of cargo – 1PL to 7PL – mechanism of logistics collaboration – door-to-door services – different types of services
 

Foreign exchange and international payments

Basic concerns of importers and exporters foreign exchange and how to deal with them – complying with regulations while making and receiving payments -
 

Commercial terms
