Cost Management in Supply Chain – techniques & strategies

Theme

Cost reduction in supply chain is a very special offering for supply chain professionals. They are spread out in areas of purchasing, operations planning, warehousing and distribution or any associated operations.

It is known that the supply chain accounts for lions share of the business costs. Supply chain consists of activities of buying inputs, converting them to the output and distribution of the output to customers. There are five cost domains in supply chain, namely, payout to suppliers and service providers, payout to direct expenses of conversion, maintenance of assets, payout as interest against capital raised and cost of physical logistics. All of them are potentially rich targets for cost reduction. Management of cost reduction requires a right perspective of these domains and their structure of costs. Techniques and strategies vary according to the domains.

Total supply chain perspective and understanding of all the links and dynamics of their interaction would create an edge for the cost manager. This program is designed to impart awareness of the issues of management and techniques in a strategic perspective of entire supply chain.

The stories and cases would help participants visualize the practical utility of the concepts in work environment. This approach also provides a stage for discussions on content and context allowing participants to relate the content to their own business.
